Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.

Every year I see people wearing florals for spring and honestly it’s becoming such a dull and overused trend. It’s in the magazines, sometimes on runways and always in big retail stores and some smaller boutiques. It can look nice but it rarely does, and so many people go way over the top and look like a walking greenhouse. You don’t want to become a walking greenhouse, so I’m going to give you some tips on how to wear florals without going overkill.

This may sound really simple because it is, but all you really need to do is pick ONE item to wear that has florals. You can pick a nice bag, a pair of pants, even a maxi dress if you insist (just try to avoid super obnoxious patterns), but stick with one single item. Shoes are the exception to this because if the colours match or complement one another you could pair floral print shoes with a nice top or bag. I wouldn’t put floral shoes and floral pants together though because you need something to break up the print, otherwise it looks bad 9 times out of 10.

One other simple thing to keep in mind is just pick a nice print. It can be bright and bold, or more subtle and muted, but make sure you love it and can own it if anyone questions why you are wearing it. Also avoid obnoxious prints and by that I mean prints that are very large and aren’t nice colours. No one should be walking around wearing french mustard yellow and olive green in the same print, ever.

Below I attached some photos of pieces that would be great to pair with a lot of other items you may already own. I would just try to avoid a lot of black or other dark colours because they don’t fit well with spring. You can buy these items from topshop.com – just enter “floral” in the search bar and browse through the items.

Lingerie as Street Wear

Ever wish you could wake up and go, without putting a ton of effort into your look or changing into something that may be super sexy, but also super uncomfortable? Well now you can! We’ve seen it before when Carrie Bradshaw was trying to catch a taxi late at night in a slip dress, and it’s coming back in style.

The key with this look is to try and keep it sleek and sexy, so no fluffy cat pajamas no matter how adorable. Try to go for something that’s made from cotton, silk, satin or a fabric of similar appearance and quality, and make sure it’s not too baggy or heavy. You don’t want your clothing to work against you by adding lumps where you have sexy curves.

I suggest a form fitting top with a cool printed jacket, loose flowing silk pants, bright heels and a clutch for your phone and a few necessities.  You can mix things up to make the look work for you and your style, but if I was a lady this is how I would rock it. If you’re interested in buying any of these pieces I’ll post the store sites below.

Almost Naked

Cropped bustiers and bandeaus, sweet, sexy, or trashy?  Well the look certainly is not meant to be trashy, so be careful how you wear it!  Bandeaus are not meant to be worn with low cut booty shorts.  Wear it with a high waisted skirt or shorts and you can channel the 1950′s and look totally retro and cute. Popular stores and designers such as Asos, Topshop and Prada are loving this look.  So go grab a bandeau and jump on this trend!
