“Techno-Coloured Punk” by Joshua R. Waller

Here are Joshua’s latest work where he not only did the makeup, but the hair, nails and styling as well! The shoot contained three separate looks, skin focus, lip focus, and an eye/blending focus but all followed the same theme! Check out some of our favourite shots!

Marilyn Monroe Beauty Powder

As you may have seen from my review of the Marilyn Monroe collection launched by MAC, I bought a few products from the new collection including the Beauty Powder. I used the Beauty Powder for a mini photo shoot and it was absolutely stunning! The product worked as a perfect highlighter and gave a satin finish to the skin!

Coral for Summer

Original designs by Fanshawe’s own; Kali Orenchuk, Sebastian Taborda Guarin, Christine Petric and Megan Shepherd. Models are wearing coral toned eye shadows and blush.

As the school year is quickly coming to an end and summer is just around the corner, it’s time to put away your heavy moisturizers and foundations and bring out the colours of the summer! Even though summer is a time when most people put away their makeup, you can still add pops of colour to brighten your complexion and makeup looks, especially for any nights out. This summer, try adding the charming colour of coral to your cheeks, eyes, lips or even your complexion!

When some people first look at the colour coral, they are terrified of its intensity and swear that they will never wear it. The truth is, if the right shade is picked and is properly applied, coral can look good on anyone. For someone who is just going out and about on a summer day and doesn’t really want to wear any makeup, putting on a coral lipstick can add a fresh look to your appearance. If you have a fair skin tone, stick with cool-toned corals as these will suit you best. If you have a bit more colour to your skin tone, you can really pull off any coral. If you have a dark skin tone, the brightest corals work the best.

If you aren’t much of a lipstick wearer, you can always add some coral to your complexion by using a primer and/or blush. Lise Watier has a duo primer that has a coral/apricot colour to it that is perfect to give a glow to the complexion and can be worn alone. However, if you are very fair, I would personally avoid using this product, or use very little of it, because you don’t want to end up looking orange. If you just want a little bit of colour on your cheeks, Benefit’s Coralista is the best blush to use because you can use it for just a sheer glow or you can build it up and get a really bright burst of colour.

Lastly, coral makes for a beautiful eye shadow colour that can be used for a simple and fun look or can be made to look more sophisticated for an evening out. For a day look you could use a glittery coral eye shadow with some dark brown eyeliner and black mascara and you’d be set. It’s simple but would make for a fun summer look. For an evening out, you could use a matte coral eye shadow and contour it with a chestnut brown colour, and then add on final touches with black eyeliner and some false eyelashes!

Next time you go out to look for your summer shades, don’t be afraid to try on some coral because chances are it will look stunning on you. If you still aren’t convinced, buy an inexpensive coral lipstick that suits your skin tone and wear it around for a day; count the number of compliments you get; you may be surprised!

Dia De Los Muertos – Day Of The Dead

Day of the Dead Photo Shoot. One of the most detailed pieces of work I have ever done and it turned out beautifully thanks to the gorgeously patient model, and outstanding photographer, Nicole Leon. This was my interpretation of an authentic “sugar skull” because we really wanted to stay away from the “Halloweenized” looking ones and capture the true culture of the Day of the Dead.

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent

One of Disney’s most interesting and beautiful villains is coming to life again on the big screen played by Angelina Jolie! I think she is a perfect fit for the role but I  am really intrigued to see how they pull of the head piece and makeup! Any ideas?
A forest of thorns shall be his tomb! Borne through the skies on a fog of doom! Now go with the curse, and serve me well! ‘Round
Stefan’s Castle, CAST MY SPELL!”

A Diva’s Inner Zombie

Many people have been asking me what my idea was behind the “Zombie Divas” so I thought I would explain the madness. Basically I took beauty and glamour and mixed it with rotting flesh and blood. Everyone has inner demon(s) even Divas! And this diva’s demon happened to be a zombie (because we all know zombies are the new vampires, duh.). So I left her skin completely flawless with a fabulous gold eye shadow, except for her mouth, because that is where the inner demon was escaping from!

It’s amazing what you can do with liquid latex, blood and a best friend.

Spring Trends for Spring Break

Spring break is finally here and it’s time to step away from all the madness of homework, tests, assignments and other stresses in our lives and take time to pay attention to yourself. You now have no excuse as to why you can’t try out some of these spectacular beauty trends for this spring! Whether you’re going to Mexico, Cuba or are just staying here, these beauty trends are perfect for any Spring Break occasion.

The trend that stood out the most to me was the “sporty cheeks,” which is derived from the idea of when you have just finished playing an outdoor sport for a while and how flushed and glowing your cheeks are. All you need to do is grab a fairly dark bronzer and a pink-toned blush and apply an amount that is a bit more than you are used to wearing. While this may seem like a lot, if properly blended, it gives a beautiful glow, especially if you are spending some time on the beach. To add a little bit of shimmer to this, dab a little bit of Benefit’s Sun Beam on the cheekbones!

The next trend that is in for the spring is “power brows.” This trend isn’t received so well, as women usually take a lot of time to make sure their eyebrows are perfectly trimmed, but this season, adding a little bit of volume to the brows is in style! All you need to do is find a good brow powder (Smashbox and Benefit seem to work the best) and fill in the brows a little darker and extend them a bit to give that dramatic look. While this might not be the best for the beach, it is perfect for an everyday look.

The “electric lips” trend is absolutely perfect for spring and any occasion over Spring Break! Wearing a bright lip colour does not make you look like a clown as long as you pick a shade that is right for you skin tone and facial features. Bright pinks, reds and even corals are excellent for adding a pop of colour to your beach attire. If you feel electric lipsticks are too severe for you, then just find a sheer lip gloss that has a bright undertone to achieve a similar effect. When using this trend, it is best to keep the eye makeup fairly simple as you don’t want too much dramatic colouring on the face.

A spring beauty trend that is best suited for your romantic night out or a night on the town is the “starry eyes” trend. This trend is inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting, Starry Night, incorporating a smokey eye with a lot of navy and sultry blues. It is a beautiful twist on the smokey eye and adds a bit of sophistication and sexiness to your evening makeup style.

This Spring Break, try something on trend and be daring! Apply a little bit more bronzer and blush than you are used to wearing, accentuate those brows and find a lip colour that will be electrifying with your skin tone. You probably don’t even have to buy new products, just simply apply the ones you are already using in a different way, using a different technique to achieve a perfect look for your 2012 Spring Break.
