This year at the Met Gala, celebrities from all over showed up for a wonderful night full of socializing, fun and fashion. The Met Gala is an annual ball to mark the opening of the fashion exhibition at the Costume Institute in New York City, and this year’s theme was punk. Since it’s a ball you would expect all sorts of interesting gowns and dresses, but some celebs rocked their looks while others failed horribly. Here is the best dressed for the Met Gala 2013, enjoy!
Taylor Swift – She looked amazing in her J. Mendel cut out dress as she worked the cameras on the red carpet. Out of all the stars there she is one of my favourites because she played with the punk trend a bit but didn’t go overkill with massive amounts of makeup or mile high hair. That’s not her style and she didn’t try to make something work that probably wouldn’t work on her. Instead, she went simple but elegant and also edgy in her black and gold lace cutout, partly sheer J. Mendel dress. I give her a 10/10 for this event, she killed it.
Anne Hathaway – As some of you may know, Anne Hathaway was on my worst dressed list for the Oscars, but since then it appears she hired a new stylist, or her original one got their act together. Anne looks like a punk bombshell and I adore her entire look from the vintage Valentino to the fresh blond locks. The black Valentino contrasts nicely against her skin and the shredded pattern on the dress looks amazing on her figure. She is my favourite for the night and gets a 10/10 from me.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – Rosie had an unusual look at this year’s Met Gala, but I thought it was interesting and also a pretty cool look. She wore a deep golden-olive Gucci dress that cut away from her breasts to expose her mid-section and show part of her amazing body. I also like how the dress has lace half sleeves and a feather like texture at the neckline. This isn’t a look that many can pull off but I think she did a good job, especially since she kept the makeup and hair a bit more on the simple side, and I would give her an 8/10.
Madonna – When it comes to Madonna, anything goes. She has made a career out of her talent and out of shocking people, so why stop now? She went for it at the Met Gala where she attended without pants or a skirt, and got a lot of attention for it. She wore a grey studded tartan jacket, a fishnet body stocking, and pink suede stilettos by Casadei. She even went as far as hanging a crucifix right below her rear which was noticed by everyone, especially the media. This look works for her simply because she’s Madonna and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of her. She does what she wants to do and owns it, just like any true icon can do. She definitely gets a 10/10 from me and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Blake Lively – I’ve always been a fan of Blake since Gossip Girl first aired, and her outfits both on and off the show never fail to impress. She is one of the most glamorous women I know of and she is someone who can launch any budding designer’s career. She wore a Gucci gown to the event and it was very glamorous, fun and slightly edgy. I like the colour blocking between the top and bottom of the dress, and I also really like how the fabric looks feathery and light. The lack of straps to hold up the dress is also a plus in my opinion, because it doesn’t add any distracting lines to the free flowing form of the dress. Blake gets a 9/10 from me for this look, and I hope she keeps up the good work.
