Wearable Art

Over the past few months, I’ve found myself to be more and more inspired by, and creating wearable art. It’s truly the ultimate hybrid between art and fashion.
I feel by being able to create garments out the most bizarre materials and creating diverse outfits will really bring wearable art out from utter obscurity and maybe be more acceptable in everyday fashion. Of course, for right now, I enjoy seeing these pieces on the runway. I would do anything to create wearable art piece collections of my own someday to be displayed in galleries and on runways/photos.
Take a look at a few designs from designers who have incorporated art into their clothing. Very inspirational!

Spreading Good Will Revamp Fashion Show for My Sister’s Place 2012!

Fanshawe College’s Fashion Merchandising program has partnered up with Good Will for seven years now holding a charity fashion show for a wonderful organization called My Sister’s Place. My Sister’s Place is a shelter for women who are homeless, abused or at a educational disadvantage. The women create jewelry for others to buy, in order to bring in a profit for the women. Where the show comes into play, is where the profits from the people who come in and see the show are automatically generated for My Sister’s Place in the hopes that the money will assist the women there.

The looks from the show were completely fabricated from re-used clothing from Good Will! A fabulous opportunity for exposure for Good Will and for the School’s program. The clothing was absolutely fabulous and was definitely New York, Paris or London worthy.

The most exciting news for us, at JRW Beauty, is that our very own stylist, Matthew, won best look for 2012! A huge congratulations for his hard work and dedication to fashion and being creative!

Take a look at the winning look, and the other looks from the show! ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Ryan Murphy’s Newest Sitcom, “The New Normal”!

Need something to watch and get absolutely addicted right away? Coming this September 11th 2012 at 9:30/8:30c, comes a new show by Ryan Murphy and affiliates called “The New Normal”. It’s a dramatic/comedy sitcom about a Los Angeles gay couple named Bryan and David, who have every aspiration of becoming fathers for the first time. David is the hard-working, mature, relaxed guy who tries to reason and question everything, whilst Bryan is the total opposite. He is very flamboyant and extremely fashionable!

Since they can’t have their own children, they confide in a surrogate mother named Goldie; an aspiring lawyer working as a waitress, who is also the single-mother to an 8-year-old girl named Shania. Shania plays the voice of wisdom to Goldie as she enlightens and opens Goldies eyes to a new and better world where love really conquers all.  Although, Goldie lives with her over-bearing, racist and bigoted grandmother, Jane. This tends to cause unwanted drama and tension between her and Goldie as her point-of-view on love and relationships is distorted from bigoted views about gays.

This does not stop Goldie from giving up her body to carrying a baby for the couple, as she reminds them that she is doing this purely for the love and justice of equality. She truly wants to do this for the couple because she knows how badly they want their first child. In return and as thanks, the couple decides to give Goldie a law suit in appreciation and a favour for carrying their child. All in the hopes that it’ll motivate her to keep pursuing and striving for a career in Law.

Ryan Murphy really knows how to create a dynamic and charismatic show with brilliant characters. I know that this show will be a major hit, and dare I say, but I may enjoy this show much more than Glee! Shocker, yes. But the reason for that is, is that this show is portraying a new look at how other families operate in today’s society and how they are discriminated and treated by bigoted minds. I believe if Ryan hits the mark on this show, it’ll change the dynamic of today’s ‘normal’ family. People will be much more accepting and less ignorant to how gay people live life. You know..we want families, to be married and grow old with somebody, too! Someday, there won’t be ‘coming out’.. it’ll just be, “This is who I love” and people won’t judge them for it. I cannot wait for that day. If Ryan Murphy, Gay rights activists, Supporters, Celebrities and other loving people keep pushing for a new normal, then we will see peace for gays everywhere. Finally.

Take a look at this extended preview for The New Normal! You KNOW I’ll be tuning in. It’s going to be an excitible, tear-jerker, romantic and funny roller-coaster ride here, people!

Tyra wants an ALL-MALE cycle of Top Model!

ImageSay what? Yeah girl it’s true. It might be all about the guys next season of Top Model if Tyra Banks’ manager approves of this mighty change to the series. But lemme’tell you. If there is going to be an all-male cycle of the super-franchise: America’s Next Top Model, then they better let Canadians audition too, because I’m so jumping on this band wagon if they call it so.

I mean, they have supermodel Rob Evans already on the juging panel, so why wouldn’t see all of his goodness and want to make an all-male cycle? Tyra’s got her head in the right place as she says: “I’ve been wanting to do it for quite some time and, yes, I’m the boss. But I have a boss and I have to convince him that a male version will do really well. … I haven’t done a good enough job of convincing my boss, but I’m not giving up. Hopefully a male version will be sooner than later!”

YES YES YES. Please, Mr.Boss man, make all of our dreams come true with an all-male cycle of Top Model, it’ll really freshen up the series to a whole new level and really bring forth a new demographic to come and watch the series. I know that it’ll be super entartaining to see 13 gawky, awkward studs trying to be the next Tyson Beckford.

What do you think? Would you watch Top Model if they had an All-Male cast? Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best! <3

-Matthew.

Classic sculptures dressed in today’s style! -Pretty funny.

Have you ever wondered what people from hundreds of thousands of years ago would dress like if they were living today? I can confirm that at least every fashionista/fashionite has had that thought strutting through their sparkling brains at some point. At least I have.

JRW Beauty’s Windsor Photoshoot!

Alas, here is the post I’ve been meaning to share with you all yesterday, but with the lack of Internet at my house, I was unable to share with you the glorious talent that resides in Windsor! It really was an incredible day!

We had 2 hair dressers, 3 photographers and 3 models! (Including myself) I thought I’d join in on the fun. I decided to treat everyone with Katherine, a JRW Beauty’s Next Top Model contestant, to take part in this project. The Windsor talent was very excited to work her! If you can’t recall from my post a few weeks ago, the theme of the shoot was high fashion grunge with a retro twist.

So right away, we met up at the Art Gallery of Windsor where we quickly said our ‘hello’s” and “how are you’s”, then it was off hair and make-up! Image

It did not take very long for everyone to become acquainted with each other as they started figuring out who would work each model first and how they were going to shoot with them. Then, we got started! But first, let me introduce you to our Windsor Talent.

The Debate. Women in Victoria Secret Ads vs. Dove Ads.

It’s the argument that’s been weighing heavily on the minds of all fashionista’s and fashionite’s everywhere. And it’s always the same question that comes out first. Why? Why does Victoria Secret only use thin models in their campaigns, where as Dove only uses larger models? Why can’t both companies embody the beauty in both body types, and all the sizes in between? Why does there have to be a right and wrong for beauty shape?

Image

Women who go to buy lingerie at Victoria Secret are constantly fed images that in order to be beautiful, you must be thin, like our models. Victoria Secret models are healthy, but why can’t they have healthy plus-size women in their ads as well? Plus-size women buy lingerie too! Why can’t they be inspired to feel sexy and have that va-va-voom factor about themselves as well?

This is where Dove comes into play. Their mentality was to ONLY use plus-size women, to encourage a new image in beauty: to go against all the other ad campaigns that use thinner women for their ads. Although, there is a fault behind their marketing methods that our team at JRW have noticed. That only using plus-size women is somewhat of a double standard. It’s just as bad as using only thin women for a campaign.

Image

Some of you will most likely go against what I’m saying, by rebutting with a response like, “No, plus size women deserve to celebrated and advertised just the same as thin women”! As they do, but by doing this, you are essentially using a hypocritical method to advertising. “You can’t advertise only thin models, that’s image discrimination!” Well… you can’t advertise only plus-size women either. What’re thin women going to think when they look at your ad? Am I not beautiful enough to buy this product because I am not plus-size? Not everybody is plus-size, either. It’s a backward result, here people.

Instead, why not both companies advertise with both plus-size models and thin models? That way, any women can look at the campaign and say, “wow, she has the same body as me, and looks fantastic in this ad. I want to buy what she’s wearing/using!” It’ll make everybody happy to live in their own skin, instead of feeling oppressed to look a certain way, or being judged.

JRW Beauty wants to take a stand against body/image discrimination. We will be doing a campaign featuring 6 women of all different body-types and races to create imagery that truly represents what really is.. beauty.

Sneak Peek into Windsor’s JRW Beauty Photo Shoot!

As I posted a few weeks ago or so, I announced that JRW Beauty was to be doing a project showcasing talent in the Windsor area featuring many photographers, hair dressers and models.  Everyone involved had the opportunity to work with Katherine (a contestant on our new show, JRW Beauty’s Next Top Model) as well!

It was a blast! The photo shoot was absolutely spectacular and everybody had so much fun. Although, it was most likely the hottest day in the history of the planet. Therefore, leaving all of us tired and wet at the end of the day. It was worth it, though, as we were all pleased with how the photos had turned out.

I have given all the photographers a week from yesterday (Saturday, August 4th) until Next Saturday, August 11th to submit to me their best pictures so I can show them to you all here on Jrwbeauty.com.

But to satisfy your hunger to see the breath-taking photos, here are a couple little spoilers from behind the scenes!

Tune in to see how Katherine does in the competition, and also to see the beautiful pictures from this shoot next Saturday!
